About Me

David Taro is a singer-songwriter and producer from South London in the UK. His work—encompassing genres including indie pop, rock and blues—is tender and heartfelt yet frequently laced with a wry, self-deprecating wit. Over the years, he's written songs about everything from fairytales gone sour to the footballer Thierry Henry. The odd love song too.

David grew up idolising the likes of Billy Joel, Queen and The Beatles. This probably explains why his first composition, aged 11, was titled Hey Bohemian Piano Man. In his late teens, David discovered blues music and Randy Newman—two more formative influences.

He comes from a musical family. His grandfather was a semi-professional musician, his father and uncle played in the late-60s pop act Grapefruit (signed to the Beatles-owned Apple Publishing), and various cousins are active musicians and producers.

Throughout his life, David has played and written music in bands—from Britpop-inspired school outfits to a blues, soul and rock n roll group, The Big Red, which specialised in raucous weddings and searing blues-rock originals sets.

In 2017, David completed a mixing and mastering course at the Garnish Music Production School, since when his production skills have steadily blossomed to the point where he now regularly produces and collaborates on other artists' material. David is also an active member of the songwriting communities for February Album Writing Month (FAWM) and the 50/90 music challenge.
